As an Infection Prevention Manager working on the Medical Reprocessing Strategy team, you will be empowered and inspired to do your best work. You will contribute to our mission by addressing customer needs, training internal personnel, and ensuring patient safety. A typical day for you will include:
Maintaining responsibility for managing of OCA’s Infection Prevention program with oversight from the Director.
Establishing and maintaining relationships with professional societies and national associations related to Infection Control and Prevention.
Representing Olympus at annual meetings, panels and summits as a policy contributor as well as observer, depending upon Olympus’ required role.
Working with R&D and manufacturing centers, develop and publish Olympus position statements related to the reprocessing of MSG products.
Liaising with Marketing to develop and provide necessary materials for device reprocessing for all business units, including Endoscopy.
Conducting regular audits to ensure materials remain up to date with industry standards and guidelines.
Providing scientific and technical support to the sales business units for the specification, validation and documentation of products procured through the GPSP process (e.g., sterilization trays, flushing pumps, test strips, detergents and germicides).
Reviewing, revising and approving the device reprocessing section of Olympus product manuals.
Assisting in the development of device reprocessing materials (e.g., wall charts, videos, webinars, podcasts, etc).
Developing applicable OnTrack forms for Olympus products including Gyrus ACMI products.
Developing and maintaining the Interactive Reprocessing Guide (IRG) database on Olympus Connect.
Expanding the IRG to include all products for both the US and Canadian markets.
Developing and providing device reprocessing training (CDS and Infection Control) to Olympus personnel.
Working with Olympus University to develop advanced Infection Control and Prevention courses for accreditation.
Reviewing and providing feedback on current curriculum and materials.
Reviewing the curriculum and materials used by Olympus University for accuracy and consistency regarding CDS practices and policies.
Developing and providing educational presentations to end users to promote the safe and effective use of Olympus products, including regional and national conferences of Professional Organizations.
Assisting the Regulatory Affairs Department in investigating infection control-related complaints; including conducting investigations via telephone interviews, on-site visits, and the development of test protocols for microbial surveillance.
Providing direction to Quality Team for the development of appropriate test protocols and interpretation of results.
Supporting device reprocessing product development and market introduction.
Responding to questions from end-users and Olympus personnel regarding device reprocessing.
Working with outside labs to help develop appropriate test protocols, coordinate the testing logistics, and interpret the test results.
Serving as Olympus liaisons to the US sterilizer manufacturers (e.g., Steris, ASP) and manage intercompany communication, provision of equipment for testing, and dissemination of information, as requested.
Continuously reviewing published literature in Infection Control and brings pertinent information to the attention of management and other stakeholders.
Performing in-house testing to support market needs and regulatory investigations including basic analytical and microbiological procedures, assays and cycle count studies.
Developing laboratory Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Work Instructions (WIs) and Data Collection Forms for both in-house and outsourced lab work.
Ensuring current SOPs, WI and Forms are up-to-date and modify as required.
Bachelor’s Degree in related field (e.g., physical or biological sciences, quality) is required; Master’s Degree in related field (e.g., nursing, QA/RA, or biological sciences) is preferred.
Minimum of 3 years of experience working in medical device and/or reprocessing field.
Minimum of 1 year experience working in a GLP/GMP laboratory.
Certification in Infection Prevention and Control (APIC) required, or the ability to receive CIC credential within 2 years of employment.
Knowledge of applicable endoscope reprocessing standards (e.g., AAMI, AORN, APIC).
Ability to travel domestically, up to 20%.
Registered/Specialist Microbiologist (ASM) Certification, Certification for Flexible Endoscope Reprocessors (CFER) or other applicable certification is preferred.
Experience writing SOPs and scientific reports.
Knowledge of disinfectant testing methods (e.g., AOAC standard methods).
Experience in personnel training and making oral presentations to groups.
Project management experience.
Proficiency in aseptic technique Ability to design and execute basic scientific experiments preferred.
Ability to perform scientific experiments according to GLP/GMP regulations.
Knowledge of applicable regulatory/quality regulations.

The Infection Prevention Manager will be responsible for management of the daily Infection Control and Prevention activities for Olympus Corporation of America and will support the market introduction of new endoscopy products, and new device reprocessing products into the US (OAI), Latin America (OLA) and Canada (OCI). The specific responsibilities of this position will include the development, review and revision of educational materials to insure and promote the safe and effective use of Olympus’ products in the healthcare community. The incumbent will engage in speaking events relating to infection control topics as well as support Marketing by writing papers & customer letters as well as developing online content such as webinars, podcasts, etc. In addition, this position will support product development efforts, respond to infection control-related inquiries, and provide training to personnel and customers on device reprocessing. He/She will represent Olympus, and be \"the face of Olympus’ infection control efforts\" to various professional societies (e.g., AORN, APIC, SAGES). As OAI’s expert in this field, the incumbent will serve as Olympus’ primary trainer to the staff of these organizations, and as a contributor to the joint development of their policies and standards.
